Autograph request

Postcard sent by Bray to Barbara Cartland on 8th July 1931 asking for her autograph.

Details of the jollifications at Cromford Court were only revealed almost thirty years later in the Daily Mail of 1931 with the story of WG being bowled by a girl. Jessie Lawton, Bertie’s nineteen year old sister, so the tale is told, dismissed him three times in twelve balls during a game on the lawn. WG was not amused and at dinner that evening he suggested his failure came about because he had been kept awake all the previous night by the owls.
