Autograph request
Postcard sent by Bray to Philip Yale Drew on 11th November 1929 asking for his autograph.
Philip Yale Drew starred in the 1919-1920 Young Buffalo series, six 2-reel Westerns filmed in New York's Adirondack Mountains. Surviving stills portray a handsome, if rather stocky man, of about 30 garbed in what could only politely be termed "western" apparel.
By the '20s, he was appearing on-stage in England, but increasing alcoholism and a severe case of delirium tremens soon made him all but unemployable. By late June 1929, the former star was traveling with a third-rate touring company when arrested in his dressing room in Reading, U.K. Drew had become the prime suspect in the robbery and murder of Alfred Oliver, a local tobacconist slain on June 22. Although the authorities were certain of his guilt -- circumstantial evidence included a pair of missing trousers that may have been bloodstained -- the actor was never indicted and the case remained unsolved.
