Autograph request

Sent by Bray to Miss. + (Cigarette card featuring Edna May) + Duke of York's Theatre on 30th April 1901 requesting her autograph.

Postcard with a cigarette card attached with the name portion removed leaving the postal authorities the challenge of identifying the intended recipient.

Bray had crossed out POST and written LETTER as well as affixing two halfpenny stamps to avoid being charged for being contrary to regulations regarding the fixing of photos to postcards. He was successful in both avoiding the charge and obtaining May's autograph.

Edna May (1878 - 1948)was born in Syracuse, New York, USA as Edna May Pettie. She was an actress, known for Salvation Joan (1916) and Hearst-Selig News Pictorial, No. 8 (1915). She was married to Oscar Lewisohn and Frederick Titus. She died on January 2, 1948 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
