Autograph request

Sent by Bray to H + (Cigarette card featuring Henry Broadhurst) + Esq, MP, 19 Buckingham Street, W.C. on 22nd January 1901 requesting his autograph.

Postcard with a cigarette card attached with the name portion removed leaving the postal authorities the challenge of identifying the intended recipient.

In addition to various circular datestamps, the Post Office endorsed it to be "Liable to Letter Rate" applying the appropriate instructional mak and a 1d. charge.

Henry Broadhurst was a leading early British trade unionist and a Lib-Lab politician who sat in the House of Commons for various Midlands constituencies between 1880 and 1906. Broadhurst was born in Littlemore, Oxford, the son of Thomas Broadhurst, a journeyman stonemason
